Modern Twist on Tradition

For some, a traditional style home is a dream come true. However, if you prefer contemporary and find yourself living in an older home, it can be a major challenge. This space by Kelly Wearstler marries clean lines with the ornate bones of the room in a way that contrasts beautifully.

White washing the walls and trim created a clean slate that really makes that sculptural chandelier pop. A slightly darker shade on the ceiling brings the height down to keep the space from feeling too big. The darker elements on the lower half of the room would blend together if it weren’t for the mixing of materials like metal, marble, iron, and white upholstery. All of these pieces layered together translate as sleek but not too precious, exactly what you want when using modern and contemporary furniture in a traditional home!
